WSCF Allegiance To Sustainable Development Goals

The World Student Christian Federation –AF is dedicated to help in the realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The world leaders in September 2015, came together in an historic summit and adapted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that include a wide range of issues; ending poverty, hunger, promoting inclusive and sustainable growth, sustainable industrialization, peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, ensure sustainable consumption and production, equality, access to education and battle on the negative of climate change. The goals call for action for over 14years in the key areas of importance for the planet and humanity.

WSCF Reflection Of SDGs

Genesis 2:15, The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. The Hebrew meaning of “tend” being “to work at”. The man is mandated to guard or watch or protect. This means that we are the stewards of earth and the Master will require an account of on how we have been stewards of what He gave us. In all modes of production, relations created and every operation that is carried on earth should be carried out in consideration of the implications. The birth of SDGs is viewed as an opportunity of stewardship towards what God has blessed us with.

Therefore WSCF-AF finds a platform to engage in with other actors beyond the ecumenical family in fulfilling this purpose with no discrimination with an attempt to change the social notions and bring in to attention critical human need.

WSCF Involvement

The SDGs cross cut various issues and strategic priority areas within the WSCF-AF framework; the organization is majorly involved in four of the outlined goals and is projected to expand the operational scope in the next two years.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5)

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. ( SDG 8)

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for inclusive development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. (SDG16)

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development. ( SDG17)

Involvement With A Purpose

WSCF-AF is commissioned to empower students in critical thinking and constructive transformation of the world, with aim to promote accountable and responsible leadership in the continent. The involvement and commitment in the realization of SDGs will help the young minds develop a critical analysis and create awareness of various mechanisms that will help the continent achieve the objected goals.
